Migration

Shopify to WooCommerce Migration Without Losing Orders, Customers or Rankings

MagniGeeks migrates stores from Shopify to WooCommerce with a written migration plan, a full rehearsal on staging, URL-by-URL redirects, and a rollback option until you are satisfied. Products, variants, images, customers, order history, discount codes, reviews and SEO data all move. Saved card details do not, and we tell you that up front rather than after launch.

Should you move at all?

Honest answer: not every store should. Shopify is a good product for stores that fit its model. The businesses that gain from moving to WooCommerce are usually the ones paying for several apps to work around Shopify's limits, paying transaction fees on a third-party gateway, needing checkout or pricing behaviour Shopify does not allow, or wanting to own their data and code outright. If your store is simple and Shopify is not in your way, we will say so on the call. We would rather lose a migration project than deliver one you regret.

What moves, and what does not

Data Moves? Notes
Products, variants, images, collections Yes Collections become categories or tags; Shopify's option structure is mapped to WooCommerce attributes.
Customers Yes Names, emails, addresses, tags. Passwords cannot be exported from Shopify, so customers set a new one on first login.
Order history Yes Imported with status, line items and totals so customer accounts and reports stay complete.
Discount codes Yes Recreated as WooCommerce coupons. Complex automatic discounts may need custom logic.
Reviews Yes From the review app you use, where it allows export.
SEO titles, descriptions, URLs Yes Metadata imported; every old URL redirected to its new one.
Saved payment cards No Card tokens stay with Shopify Payments. Customers re-enter card details on their next order.
Subscriptions Partly Subscription records can be recreated, but active billing agreements usually have to be re-authorized by the customer. We plan this with you.
Theme No Shopify themes are Liquid; WooCommerce themes are PHP. The design is rebuilt, which is a chance to fix what was wrong with it.
Apps No Each app is replaced with a WooCommerce plugin or custom code. We map these before quoting.

How the migration runs

  1. Audit and plan. Product count, variant complexity, order volume, every app and what it does, every custom URL pattern, payment providers and subscriptions. The output is a written plan with a fixed price.
  2. Build WooCommerce on staging. Hosting, theme, plugins and any custom development the app mapping requires. Performance is designed in here, not bolted on later.
  3. Rehearsal migration. A full data import to staging. You check products, prices, images and customer accounts against the live Shopify store. We fix mapping issues and run it again until it is right.
  4. Redirect map. Every Shopify URL, including product, collection, page and blog paths, mapped to its WooCommerce equivalent and tested. This is what protects your rankings.
  5. Cutover. Final delta import of orders and customers created since the rehearsal, DNS switch, redirects live, payments tested with real transactions. Shopify stays untouched for an agreed period so rollback remains possible.
  6. Post-launch. Search Console monitored for crawl errors, 404s fixed, and a support window while the first orders come through.

Why a plugin team rather than a migration service

Migration services move data. They do not build the WooCommerce features that replaced your Shopify apps, and that is where migrations go wrong. We are primarily a plugin and WooCommerce development team, so the custom pricing rule, the B2B ordering flow or the integration your Shopify app handled gets built properly by the same people doing the migration. Our public plugins, WP Responsive Menu and RestroPress, have been on wordpress.org since 2014 and 2018, so the code we leave you with is the kind we maintain ourselves.

Common questions

Will I lose Google rankings when moving from Shopify to WooCommerce?

Not if the redirects are complete and the new pages keep the same content and metadata. Some movement in the first weeks is normal. Losing rankings permanently is nearly always a redirect map with gaps, which is why ours is tested URL by URL before cutover.

How long does a Shopify to WooCommerce migration take?

A store with a few hundred products and no custom apps can be done in a few weeks. Stores with tens of thousands of products, subscriptions or many apps take longer because each app becomes a small development project. The audit gives you a real timeline.

Can we keep taking orders during the migration?

Yes. Shopify stays live until cutover, and the final delta import brings across orders placed in between. Downtime at cutover is minutes, not hours.

What about our Shopify Payments balance and disputes?

Those stay with Shopify. Keep the Shopify account open until pending payouts clear and the chargeback window on your last orders has passed. We include this in the plan.

Can you migrate from Magento, BigCommerce or a custom platform?

Yes. The process is the same; the export tooling differs. Ask.

★★★★★

He was professional from the very first message, responded quickly at every stage, and took the time to really understand my situation before recommending anything. He explained technical decisions in plain language, never made me feel rushed or talked down to, and was genuinely understanding of my priorities and budget.

★★★★★

He didn't just identify issues, he explained what mattered, why it mattered, and what should be done next without trying to overcomplicate or oversell anything. I came away with a lot of confidence in both his knowledge and his approach. I've already decided to continue working with him on the next phases.

He helped update an old custom Genesis child theme to the latest version and ensure compatibility with PHP 8.4. Along the way, he discovered several other problems that he fixed at no cost. He exceeded my expectations in every way.
